I'm intrigued by the privileges enjoyed by Head Boys and Head girls in some of our ancient educational establishments.

These include rights to keep pigs, goats, and in some cases even mistresses; it was not clear whether all forms of livestock were intended for the same purpose.

When I read of such engaging customs, I pity those who are subjected to the unimaginative regimes of modern comprehensive schools.

Details are provided in a recently published article in the Telegraph.
