Choose your Strawberry Seller carefully.

In the market yesterday I bought four 400g punnets of strawberries for a total of £2-00 - I plan to make jam. A little later I noticed that Sainsbury had a special offer - 400g punnets of strawberries reduced from £3-99 to £1-99, so still almost four times as expensive as those in the market.

Yes, I've found a market nearby that is open Thursdays and Saturdays, and I buy all of my fruit and veg there now. Supermarkets are at least twice as expensive, and three and four times are also common; the best buy currently seems to be giant 5-kilo bags of onions at £3.50 which I'm guessing must work out at better than 1/6 the price per onion as the supermarkets.

I used to grumble when Mum dragged me off to the market to spend an hour there going round every stall, now I know why.
